Soldier Field has seen its fair share of big events featuring teams from Wisconsin and Minnesota, but it’s usually the Bears playing the Packers or Vikings (maybe once upon a time the Milwaukee Braves played the Cubs there or something, who knows?). The Gophers playing the Badgers in the Bears’ home stadium? In a hockey game? That’s a new one.
The one-of-a-kind outdoor hockey event will take place February 17, 2013 as the second half of a doubleheader also featuring Miami (Ohio) vs. Notre Dame. Fans I’m sure are stoked and I know the players are. Mark Zengerle tweeted yesterday, “Outdoor game at Soldier Field vs minny is official for next year!!” TWO exclamation points.
