The journalistic bloodhounds at TMZ have been grilling their many law enforcement sources regarding the Montee Ball matter and have unearthed some possibly unpleasant details concerning not only the attack but the events that may have led to the attack. In short, it appears the assault may not have been as unprovoked as the police initially thought. TMZ says Ball and several of his Wisconsin teammates may have been involved in a fight several days before five people jumped the running back in the dark along University Ave., and the attack on Ball may have been in retaliation for this.
According to sources, Ball and a couple other Badgers may have beaten up a “non football-player” during a scrum at a player’s home last week, an incident that was never reported to police. Cops are now investigating whether the attack on Ball might have been a revenge assault. TMZ has contacted the University of Wisconsin athletic department but received no reply.
Obviously this is not what Bret Bielema, Barry Alvarez and the Badgers wanted to hear. If Ball and other players did indeed get involved in a fight where a man was beaten up, then discipline will be in order. Clearly the cops are all over this now so the possibility of criminal charges has to be thrown in there. I’ll be curious to learn the identities of the other players involved in the alleged fight.
It just shows how fast your perceptions of a situation can change. Before we were worried about Montee Ball’s possible Heisman season being derailed by a concussion incurred in a random attack. Now it seems we have more to worry about including the possibility of Ball being suspended or even jailed. Not smart Montee and other Badgers allegedly involved. You ain’t at Ohio State, you’re at Wisconsin.
