There’s no doubting that senior linebacker Chris Borland has had an amazing career for the Wisconsin Badgers. Borland is regarded as one of the top linebackers in the nation and plays the game at a high level. On Saturday night when the Badgers face the Illinois Fighting Illini, Borland could possibly add another mark on his senior resume.
Yes you read that right. Don’t adjust your TV sets (I don’t think anyone does that anymore, do they?) if they Badgers are lining up for a field goal 45 yards or longer and you see number 44 lining up his kick. It’s just Borland looking to put three points on the board for Bucky. This is nothing new for Borland, as his freshman year he made three extra points in a game against Hawaii.
Head coach Gary Andersen said on Thursday night that Borland will handle the kicking duties if the Badgers need a field goal from 45 yards out or longer. Andersen wasn’t joking either.
There really is nothing the star senior cannot do. Borland is on numerous award watch lists for his excellence as a linebacker. I don’t think we will be seeing him accept the Lou Groza Award anytime soon however. A big part of me does hope we get to see Borland line up for a field goal Saturday night and drills a 47 yard kick right down the middle of the uprights.
It was also announced that Kyle French would be benched and that sophomore Jack Russell will be taking over the field goal kicking duties.
