Just as important as the current players of the Wisconsin Badgers is the future of the program. As the success of the programs at Wisconsin begin to rise, so do the number and quality of recruits that have interest in the Badgers. Below are five football recruits that have either committed or are high on the Badgers’ board.
Jaden Gault (OL)- The 6’7″ 280 pound offensive lineman is not only big in stature, but his play on the field as well. Not only is he the top lineman recruit in Wisconsin, Gault is also the overall top recruit in the state. Gault is a 4-star prospect and the 8th best offensive tackle in the country according to 247Sports. He has committed to Wisconsin but Miami has offered him and the Oregon Ducks are gaining interest in him as well. With that said I don’t see Gault going anywhere but Wisconsin.
Beau Benzschawel (TE/OL)- This was an interesting story from earlier in the week that generated some buzz in the Badger state. On Thursday the Badgers offered the 250 pound tight end from Grafton, WI and he quickly gave his verbal commitment, meaning he would decommit from his verbal to Syracuse earlier in the month. Benzschawel is that “Badger-type” recruit, meaning if he is able to add muscle and fill out he will be used as a lineman. If not, Benzschawel will be used as a tight end. He’s the kind of player that the Badgers staff will find a place for him.
George Panos (OL)- Surprise, surprise another big athletic lineman high on the Badgers radar. The 6’5″ 300 pound is as big and athletic as they come. Some consider Panos (Hartland, WI) as good, if not better than Gault. The Badgers do have a verbal commit from Panos, however he will keep drawing interest from numerous schools across the country leading up to signing day. Panos will play in the Semper Fi All-American Bowl January 5, 2014.
Joe Mixon (RB)- As impressive as the offensive linemen that have played in Madison, so are the impressive running backs they have brought in and Mixon (Oakley, CA) would certainly be one of them. A five-star recruit, Mixon has not made a verbal commitment yet but did enjoy his visit to Camp Randall a couple of weeks ago. The speedy tail back would be a huge asset to an already very impressive backfield. Oklahoma may be the favorite at the moment, the Badgers are right up there in the top three for Mixon.
Jamil Kamara (ATH)- Another speedy and talented athlete that head coach Gary Andersen is looking to add. Kamara (Virginia Beach, VA) is another out-of-state recruit that is high on the Badgers board and who has the Badgers high on his. He also joined Joe Mixon, as well as numerous recruits, on a visit to Madison October 12. Andersen doesn’t want to shy away from the typical running game that Wisconsin is known for, however adding an explosive weapon like Kamara would open a variety of possibilities. Kamara has listed Wisconsin as his leader for the time being.
The Badgers are in some tight recruiting battles with Kamara and Mixon, and landing one if not both recruits would really give a boost to the program. Look for Wisconsin to make a strong push for both players.
