When the Wisconsin Badgers take the field Saturday against the BYU Cougars, they will be happy to see wide receiver Jared Abbrederis on the field.
Abbrederis’ status for the showdown at Camp Randall was in question after he suffered a rib injury in Wisconsin’s win over the Iowa Hawkeyes. But after full participation in practice Thursday, coach Gary Andersen was confident Abbrederis should have no problem playing.
He was out there moving around pretty good today. I would expect him to be really not even be limited.
Good news for the Badgers, as Abbrederis is by far Stave’s number one receiver. The senior wide out from Wautoma, WI has caught 46 passes for 782 yards and 6 touchdowns. Who is second in receptions for Bucky? That would be running back James White, who has 23 receptions. Third on the list is senior tight end Jacob Pedersen with 18 balls caught.
With Abbrederis in the line up, it will take some pressure off of Stave forcing to find a top target and will limit how many guys the Cougars defense puts in the box to stop the run.
No doubt Gary Andersen is breathing a bit of a sigh of relief knowing his top receiving threat will be suiting up Saturday afternoon. Look for Abbrederis to be used a number of different ways to keep the BYU defense on their toes.
