Heading into this game between the BYU Cougars and Wisconsin Badgers, we all knew it would be a battle of whose defense would crack first. Right now it is the Cougars that has bent as the Badgers lead 17-3 at halftime.
The Badgers have held BYU quarterback Taysom Hill to only 56 yards passing and just a measly 5 yards on the ground. Badgers have also forced an interception by Hill as well. Chris Borland has also made his presence know so far, but the defense needs to keep the pressure on Hill and force more sacks.
As for the two-headed running attack of Melvin Gordon and James White, it has been held in check for the most part. Gordon has rushed for 42 on 10 carries while White has had the better day so far rushing for one touchdown and 64 yards and also catching a touchdown as well. The Badgers have had most of their success running on the outside of a tough BYU defense.
Quarterback Joel Stave has had a good first half, throwing for 144 yards and one touchdown. Stave also has an interception after having a pass broken up and defender Kyle Van Noy on his back was able to reel in the football, his only real mistake in the game thus far.
Stave led a real nice drive at the end of the half, an 11 play drive in two and a half minutes which finished with a touchdown catch by White with 14 seconds remaining in the half.
BYU will get the ball at the start of the second half. As long as the Badgers can eliminate their turnovers and get their running game going, as well as keeping Taysom Hill in check and forcing sacks and bad decisions, Bucky should be able to come away with the victory.
