Badgers Score Field Goal Late, Lead Gophers 13-7 at Halftime

In what is college football’s longest running rivalry, the Wisconsin Badgers and Minnesota Gophers are shaping up for an instant classic once again in the Battle for Paul Bunyan’s Axe. With a late field goal, the Badgers lead the Gophers 13-7 at halftime.

If not for two Minnesota turnovers, this game would be a totally different story. The Gophers have been able to keep it close however thanks to their defense. An interception for a touchdown is the only score for the Gophers.

Running back James White has once again had a good first half, although it hasn’t been easy. After a 49-yard run on the first play, it took White and the Badgers offensive line to get going. At the break White has rushed for 106 yards on 15 carries and one touchdown. Melvin Gordon has yet to get going today, rushing for only 27 yards on the day thus far.

The Gophers have had some nice drives going but have either stalled or shot themselves in the foot with turnovers. Running back David Cobb is the only real star on offense today, rushing for 52 yards on 10 carries.

Wisconsin has the advantage in the total yards category, racking up 193 to Minnesota’s 94. The Badgers need to get the running game going and force the Gophers into three and outs in the second half. If Minnesota hangs around, they could end up pulling off the upset.
