Wisconsin Badgers Move Up in BCS Standings

The Wisconsin Badgers have moved up to the 15 spot of the latest BCS standings, improving from their previous 19th ranking from a week ago. As I wrote earlier I had a feeling this is where the Badgers would land, setting themselves up nicely if they take care of business against Penn State Saturday to hop into the top 14 of the standings.

After knocking off Minnesota this past Saturday coupled with numerous upsets and weaker schedules, this week’s rankings finally saw the Badgers with a somewhat significant jump. The Gophers were the last chance for Wisconsin to get a quality road win as they were able to retain Paul Bunyan’s Axe for the 10th straight year, winning 20-7 in frigid conditions.

Looking ahead for Wisconsin, they host Penn State on Saturday afternoon and in my opinion it wouldn’t hurt if they won with a little style. I’m not saying that the Nittany Lions are an easy win because they are not. I am saying however that the Badgers should be able to win and winning big won’t hurt their cause either.

The Badgers know what they have to do. Take care of Penn State and they should be able to qualify for an at-large BCS bid. Both ESPN and CBS project Wisconsin to participate in the Orange Bowl so check out PrimeSport for tickets if you’re thinking ahead.  It’s not final, but Wisconsin has placed themselves in solid position if they can win out.  A couple more upsets this next week won’t hurt their cause either.
