On Monday ESPN.com not only announced its All-Big Ten team but also came out with their Big Ten all-freshman team as well. Three players, cornerback Sojourn Shelton, center Dan Voltz and running back Corey Clement, come from the Wisconsin Badgers.
Voltz stepped in nicely and played well when called upon after red shirt junior Dallas Lewallen when down with a knee injury. Starting the last four games and five overall, Voltz may be called upon once again in the Capital One Bowl as Lewallen is still recovering.
Corey Clement is a great running back, but when are third on the depth chart behind James White and Melvin Gordon it’s hard to see any playing time. Clement was still able to run for 515 yards and seven touchdowns, with his best game coming against Tennessee Tech when he reeled off 149 yards and two touchdowns.
That brings us to cornerback Sojourn Shelton who easily was the best freshman for this Badgers team. Shelton had four interceptions, 31 total tackles and one forced fumble in his freshman year. Not to mention Shelton also had 9 passes defended, which is tied for 15th overall in the Big Ten. His four picks are also easily tops for a freshman in conference and are tied for third best in league play as well. Shelton has exceeded expectations this year and will be a very important part of the Badgers defense going forward.
