Wisconsin Badgers Basketball: It’s Now or Never for Bo Ryan’s Squad

So Wisconsin Badgers fans, have you hit the panic button on the season yet?

Something tells me that a majority of people out there have already. Honestly I don’t blame you if you have. My hand has been hovering over the button for two weeks now.

Actually who am I kidding, I hit it after the Badgers lost to the Michigan Wolverines.

After an amazing 16-0 start, this Badgers team seemed like it could do no wrong. Sure there were flaws about the team (I’m looking at you defense!), but we all overlooked that as the Badgers made their way up to the three spot in the AP rankings.

But then came a loss to the Indiana Hoosiers after the Badgers were up by 10 at one point. Then came a rare home loss against the Wolverines. And against the Minnesota Gophers on Wednesday the team came out flat for the third game in a row., dropping Wisconsin to 16-3 and more than likely a free fall in the polls.

Hang on there cowboy. There are still 12 games left in this season. Wisconsin is 3.5 games back of the Michigan State Spartans for first, a team they have yet to play. A game that will be played at the Kohl Center mind you. There’s a lot that can still happen if Bucky wants this headed back in the right direction.

It’s the Big Ten conference we are talking about here. Everyone can and will beat up on everyone else. Ohio State is in the midst of a four-game losing streak. Who’s to say the Spartans or Wolverines or Iowa Hawkeyes (a team the Badgers have beat) do not go through their slump sometime soon.

First and foremost however, the Badgers need to fix their problems if they want to get back in this thing. The schedule does not and will not get any easier. On Saturday Wisconsin takes on the Purdue Boilermakers at Mackey Arena, a place that has not been kind to Bucky.

In fact in the next eight games, Wisconsin will face four currently ranked opponents and a Minnesota team that just knocked them off. It’s either now or never for this team to start to get back on track and make a little run of their own, hopefully as the top of the conference starts a losing streak of their own.

If they can’t get this turned around now, that sound you will hear will be panic buttons from all over Badger Nation being shattered. Those things are not cheap either.
