The 2014 Pro Bowl took on a different format this year in hopes to regain interest in the near-defunct all-star game. No longer is the game the NFC’s best vs. the AFC’s best. Now the game is a collection the best players from around the NFL, regardless of team or conference picked in a gym class manner by team captains.
The captains that chose their real life fantasy football teams were Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders.
Two former Badgers are representing the University of Wisconsin at the Pro Bowl this year. Those two players are DE J.J. Watt, of the Houston Texans and OT Joe Thomas of the Cleveland Browns; both perennial Pro Bowlers.
Watt was selected to play for “Team Sanders” and Thomas was chosen to play for “Team Rice.”
Team Sanders’ Top Playmakers: Andrew Luck, Jamaal Charles and Dez Bryant.
Team Rice’s Top Playmakers: Drew Brees, LeSean “Shady” McCoy and Josh Gordon.

Former Badger QB Russell Wilson was also selected to play in the Pro Bowl but is more than happy to be skipping out on the game to prepare to play in that other game… Ya know, the Super Bowl or whatever it’s called.
So technically the Badgers did have three former players invited to the Pro Bowl in all.
For Badgers fans that are also fans of the Green Bay Packers, running back Eddie Lacy – the Packers only Pro Bowl selection – will be teammates with Watt on “Team Sanders.”
The game is on tonight at 6:30 PM CT at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii broadcasted nationally on NBC. There is also a free online stream of the game at NBC Sports Live Extra.
