Bo Ryan, head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers basketball team, spent his Valentine’s evening at Diamond Stone’s high school game in Racine, according to Mark Miller of WisSports.net.
Stone, a six-foot-ten 253 pound 5-star center plays for Dominican high school in Milwaukee. He is the Badgers’ top recruit for the 2015 class and would be an amazing pickup for Wisconsin.
This is a good time for Ryan to come see Stone in person. Stone was one of the three big recruits that were in attendance for the Badgers’ victory over No. 9 Michigan State last Sunday. Building off of that momentum, Ryan is hoping to lure Stone to Madison for next season by showing his commitment to him with this visit to Milwaukee.
Center is definitely a position that the Badgers need to build depth at and there is literally no player that would better fill that role. Frank Kaminsky, the Badgers’ only true center who plays regularly, will be a senior next year. That position will be wide open for Stone to take for his own if he should choose Wisconsin. I’m betting Ryan will mention that to Stone tonight, if he hasn’t already.
He holds offers from various top schools including: Arizona, Georgetown, Indiana, Marquette (who many believe he’ll sign with) and UCLA. An impressive list to say the least.
Eric Bossi and Rivals.com have said this about Stone:
“Highly skilled big man has worked hard to get his body inline with his game. Shoots well to 15 feet, can finish with either hand and is quite comfortable turning to either shoulder to finish. Has power but needs to learn how to use it more consistently.”
Win or lose, hopefully Ryan gets to spend some quality time with Stone after the game ends. Seriously, imagine Stone lining up with with the likes of Sam Dekker, Nigel Hayes, Frank Kaminsky, Trae Jackson, Josh Gasser and Bronson Koenig.
Damn. Now that’s fun to think about.
