Ah, sweet revenge.
The No. 21 Wisconsin Badgers marched into Ann Arbor and decimated the No. 15 Michigan Wolverines this afternoon. The Badgers got up 34-19 at the half and ended up winning the game 75-62. The Badgers lost to the Wolverines in Madison last month, which makes this victory even sweeter.
The hero of the day was Frank Kaminsky, who scored 25 points and brought down 11 rebounds. Numerous times, Kaminsky made impressive moves toward the basket through traffic and finished the play with the ball in the bottom of the net. Michigan simply had no answer for him.
Kaminsky also hit the biggest shot of the game, a step back three pointer as the shot clock expired with 2:18 left to play; putting the game away.
The Wolverines made a late push thanks to the sharp-shooting of Caris Lavert, who scored 17 of his 25 points in the second half.
Sam Dekker pitched in 15 points for the Badgers.
Wisconsin has now won four straight games, including victories over top two teams in the Big 10; Michigan and Michigan State. As a result the Badgers find themselves alone in fourth place in the Big 10 with a huge matchup with the No. 16 Iowa Hawkeyes looming next Saturday.
Wisconsin’s won five of its last six games in Ann Arbor. For a few moments, in the second half, it seemed as though Michigan was going to take control. They had the momentum and the crowd behind them. The Wolverines cut the Badgers’ lead to 52-49 after two Lavert free throws.
But, the Badgers’ hero of the day stepped up. Kaminsky hit a jump shot, the first of 7 straight points he would score for the Badgers. The game wouldn’t be close again.
The Badgers have fully recovered from the rough stretch from Jan. 14-Feb. 1 where they lost five of six games. Wisconsin is again looking like the potential final four team they looked like when they began the year 16-0.
This win is as big as any win the Badgers have secured all year and its all thanks to Kaminsky.
