Guess what folks? March Madness is right around the corner! Before long selection Sunday will be upon us as teams will learn their fate as to who they will (or in some cases won’t) play come tournament time.
What better time than now to start to look at the NCAA Tournament resume of the Wisconsin Badgers. As usual this will change from week to week and will be updated here at Badger of Honor accordingly.
RPI RANK: 5
This has always been one of the strong points of the Badgers this season. For much of the season, Wisconsin has been in and around the top five. Come selection time and seeding, this will be one of the major points that will work in the Badgers favor. The four teams ahead of Wisconsin are the Kansas Jayhawks, Arizona Wildcats, Florida Gators and Villanova Wildcats. Pretty good company to be in if you ask me.
STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE: 2
Once again just like their RPI ranking, the strength of schedule will be a major selling point for Bo Ryan and company. Not only does playing in the tough Big Ten conference help this number, but Wisconsin’s very tough and challenging non-conference schedule is a big factor as to why this number is where it is. What team is ahead of the Badgers you ask? Kansas.
WINS AND LOSSES:
Ok pay attention here kids because I’m going to throw a lot of numbers at you right now. Wisconsin’s win-loss record vs. RPI top 50 is 7-3. That is nothing to frown upon at all. On the road the Badgers boast a 6-2 record and on a neutral court they are a perfect 3-0. Both records I would take any day of the year. Finally the Badgers currently have an 8-5 record in the B1G. That mark doesn’t seem too impressive, but remember they play in the toughest conference in the nation AND they are only two games back of first place.
vs. Florida (RPI 3)
St. Louis* (13)
@ Virginia (16)
vs. Michigan State (19)
@ Michigan (18)
Some great wins here by Wisconsin, conference and non-conference. It helps that these teams have done well this season and rank in the top 20 of the RPI.
@ Indiana (100)
vs. Northwestern (103)
Yes the Badgers have three other losses than this, but losing to two teams that are in the 100′s when it comes to RPI rankings is never a good thing. The B!G is tough yes, but these are two teams you should defeat.
The Badgers have five games left in the regular season to improve on their NCAA Tournament resume. Not to mention they are right back in the thick of the B1G conference race. Things looked bleak a month ago, but now is the time for Wisconsin to get hot and continue their winning ways.
