The Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers have now taken their turns this year as being the hottest in-State team, in their respective sports.
The NL Central leading and current top-team in the Major Leagues, Milwaukee Brewers, will pay homage to the Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team and their 2014 Final Four run, when also welcoming the New York Yankees to town for inter-league play, May 9 at Miller park.
Wisconsin head basketball coach Bo Ryan will lead the program’s players and staff on the field for pregame recognition and a ceremonial first pitch. The program will begin at approximately 6:50 p.m., so fans will want to arrive and be in their seats early.
Brewers general manager and President of baseball operations, Doug Melvin, spoke about the event this week and again extended a heartfelt congratulations to the team from Madison.
“On behalf of the Milwaukee Brewers, we congratulate the Badgers men’s basketball team for a terrific season and an exciting trip to the Final Four,” Melvin said. “Bo Ryan and his team provided great excitement throughout Wisconsin and they represented our state extraordinarily well.”
For those who may have forgotten, the Badgers posted a 30-8 record (.789) during this past season and advanced to the Final Four for the first time since 2000. This season marked just the third-ever trip to the Final Four for the Badgers, who won 30 games for the third time in school history.
“We’d like to thank the Brewers for inviting us out to Miller Park,” Ryan said. “It will be an honor to be on the field and participate in the pregame festivities. I’m going to have to warm up the old shortstop arm, those Major League Baseball fields are a bit bigger than ones I grew up on. But it will be a fun night.”
In addition to the team being honored, the University of Wisconsin Marching Band will be playing near the Home Plate Gate before the game as well as performing the national anthem.
