Well Wisconsin Badgers fans, it looks as if the high expectations for the 2014-15 season have begun already.
On Monday, Bovada released their updated odds to win the 2015 NCAA Tournament. No surprise to see the Kentucky Wildcats (5/1) as the odds of favorite to win it all next season.
But with the core of the team coming back next year, the Wisconsin Badgers find themselves as a 12/1 favorite to cut down the nets next year in Indianapolis. Only the aforementioned Wildcats and Duke Blue Devils (9/1) are favored above Wisconsin to win it all.
Why yes Lloyd Christmas, I am saying there’s a chance. In fact there’s more than just a chance. There’s a good possibility and I’ll tell you why.
The Badgers are returning every key player except for one (Ben Brust) from their Final Four team a year ago. That experience and maturing will help this team grow even more.
Frank Kaminsky should have as good a season, if not better, than last year. Sam Dekker will look to improve on a decent sophomore campaign. Josh Gasser will be one more year removed from ACL surgery as his shot and stellar defense will only get better. Traevon Jackson has room for growth and will look to improve on last year’s numbers. Freshmen Nigel Hayes and Bronson Koenig played exceptionally well a year ago. Scary part is for the rest of college basketball is that they are only going to get better.
It sure is exciting to see Wisconsin being named as a favorite to win next year’s tournament. Now it’s time to see them live up to and hopefully exceed those expectations.
