With the 68th overall pick in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft the Atlanta Falcons have selected former-Badger safety Dezmen Southward.
Southward is the first Badger to be drafted in the 2014 draft. That’s quite an honor considering the talent Wisconsin is sending to the pros this year.
Southward will join the Falcons with a real chance to become a solid piece of their defense early on. Playing time is not a lock for the impending rookie but he will have a chance to make his mark this summer in Atlanta. If Southward can perform like he did for the Badgers; he’ll see the field this fall. He is a natural safety who swings his hips well. If he can clean up a few mental errors he’ll be a solid pro.
The Falcons a player who continually came up big for the Badgers. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. believed that Southward was underrated coming out of the Big 10 and may exceed many people’s expectations of him.
We at Badger of Honor want to congratulate Southward and wish him success at the next level. May he represent Wisconsin well for years to come in the with the Falcons and in the NFL.
