With the 77th overall pick, in the third round, of the 2014 NFL Draft the San Francisco 49ers have selected former-Badger linebacker Chris Borland.
Borland will join the 49ers and will be expected to make an immediate impact on their defense. Of course how much of the field he sees will depend on how he performs in training camp. But if he plays anything like he did in Madison; the field is something he’ll be seeing a lot of on Sundays this year. He’s an undersized prospect who plays larger than he measures up and is known for his heart and on-field leadership.
The 49ers are getting a proven player who continually dropped the jaws of Badgers fans for the last four years; making numerous huge plays on the defensive side of the ball. His ongoing shoulder injury caused him to slip down the draft boards in the previous weeks but the 49ers are smart for going with him anyway. He proved able to play through injuries in college and hopefully he remains relatively healthy in the pros.
We at Badger of Honor want to congratulate Borland and wish him success at the next level. May he represent Wisconsin well for years to come in the with the 49ers and in the NFL.
