Chikwe Obasih. Learn this name because you will be hearing a lot of it this season. Need to know how to pronounce his name? Don’t sweat it, I have you covered; it’s CHEEK-way oh-BAH-shee. By season’s end, Obasih’s name will be rolling off the tongue of the Wisconsin Badgers faithful.
Obasih came to the Badgers as one of, if not the best recruit in the state from Brookfield Central high school. Not to mention Obasih was a highly touted defensive end prospect that had numerous offers from schools inlcuding Iowa, Ole Miss, Illinois, Pudue and Oregon State just to name a few.
With the Badgers running a 3-4 defense, Obasih had to make the adjustment from running a 4-3 scheme and came to Madison a bit undersized. But taking a redshirt last season changed all that as he has now added more muscle to his frame. And he has been turning a lot of heads during spring practice.
He was the toughest guy last year on the scout team, day in and day out, as far as just coming out and getting knocked around. As light as he was, he kept on fighting and battling. So, he has a toughness we learned he had a year ago. That’s just continued to grow.
And with the progress Obasih has made this spring, Andersen has no problem penciling him in as the starter.
Chikwe is starting right now.
After getting beat up a year ago on the scout team, Obasih is ready to get out in front of a sold out Camp Randall Stadium and disrupt opposing offense’s.
Chikwe Obasih. Learn the name. The 2014 season should be a big one for the Brookfield, WI native. And once again say it with me; CHEEK-way oh-BAH-shee.
