In the next two weeks, NFL.com will be releasing their top 14 players in various categories called 14 in ‘14. Today they released their most explosive athletes in 2014 and landing on that list is Wisconsin Badgers running back Melvin Gordon.
A contender to win the Heisman Trophy this year, there’s no doubt Gordon would be on this list. He had a great season last year and I can only imagine this year will be much of the same. Gordon rushed for over 1,600 yards a season ago and scored 12 touchdowns. He averaged 7.8 yards per carry, fourth-best in the nation. Gordon also led all running backs with rushes of at least 70 yards three times, one of which went for 80 yards.
Gordon is just one of two running backs on the list, joining fellow Big Ten back Tevin Coleman of Indiana. Coleman is one of the speediest backs in the nation and an integral part of the Hoosiers offense.
Defensive end Randy Gregory from the Nebraska Cornhuskers joins Gordon and Coleman as the only Big Ten players to be named one of the most explosive athletes from NFL.com.
Melvin Gordon decided not to enter the NFL Draft and come back to Madison because he wanted to win a national championship, although I think a Heisman Trophy is more in the cards. No matter how well the Badgers fare this season, one thing is for certain. Watching Gordon run will provide great entertainment this fall.
