College Football Playoff: Wisconsin Badgers on the Outside Looking In

This season marks the first year of the college football playoff. No more BCS. We all got what we wanted with a playoff, although there are people out there that will never be satisfied with any format in college football. Anyways, where do the Wisconsin Badgers fit this year in the new college football playoff?

Right now they will be left on the outside looking in.

Don’t get me wrong, they are a good football team. They have potential Heisman finalist Melvin Gordon in the backfield and will look to completely run over opposing defenses. With a guy like Gordon, the Badgers will have a chance of being highly successful this year.

They also have a somewhat easy and favorable schedule this season. Wisconsin’s toughest game? That would be the season-opening contest against LSU. Even if the Badgers do lose there, it wouldn’t hurt their chances too bad. Plus they play their Big Ten schedule works out nicely, not having to play Michigan, Michigan State or Ohio State this year.

But even with those reasons, Bucky will be left out of the college football playoff. I don’t know how well this defense will hold up this year. They lost a lot of talent a year ago and will look at younger guys to fill the void.

Plus a slip up in conference play will more than likely put a damper on any hopes of landing in the college football playoff. Besides the game with LSU, the Badgers face a tough task traveling to Iowa City, IA to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

The Badgers also have to fight through a number of other very talented teams, two of which are in the Big Ten East. Michigan State and Ohio State will be favorites to make the college football playoff as will teams like Alabama, Oklahoma, Florida State, Oregon and others. It will be a tough road to try to get past a few of those teams to get in the discussion. has Wisconsin as the eighth-best team to contend for a spot in the college football playoff. I’d say that seems about right for Bucky. With a little bit of luck who knows, maybe they can sneak into the final four of college football.
