The dawning of a new era is upon us this season we say goodbye to the BCS and hello to the College Football Playoff. So of course they had to come up with a new trophy. And the design they came up is, well interesting.
You either love this design or you hate. I personally am not a big fan of it. I find it odd that they went from a crystal ball during the BCS era to this. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that they wanted to set themselves apart from the BCS or anything for that matter. But why go with a design that looks like a beer tapper handle from my favorite watering hole? And you’d think with being from Wisconsin and the design looking like a beer tapper handle that I would like it. I guess if it dispensed some Leinenkugel’s it wouldn’t be half bad.
Twitter did not disappoint on this one either. There were some who liked how the trophy looked. Others, not so much.

Robert Flores of ESPN was pretty much spot on with his assessment of the trophy.
The Wisconsin Badgers football account certainly likes it.

And here’s some fun facts about the new trophy according to the College Football Playoff website:
- Handmade from 24k gold, bronze and stainless steel
- Trophy stands 26.5 inches tall
- Weighs 35 pounds
- Base stands a foot high
- Base weighs 30 pounds
- Together the trophy and base weigh total of 65 pounds
Oh and another feature is the trophy can come apart from the base:
