Just two days into NFL training camp, former Wisconsin Badger Jared Abbrederis, a fifth round draft pick for the Green Bay Packers, is making plays.
He was singled out by ESPN’s Rob Demovsky in his takeaways from day two of training camp:
“It was a good day for another rookie receiver. Fifth-round pick Jared Abbrederis had perhaps the play of the day, when he hauled in a deep pass from [Matt] Flynn with cornerback Tramon Williams in tight coverage,” Demovsky wrote.
Abbrederis, who starred for the Badgers during his time at Wisconsin, is hoping to stand out among a crowded group of receivers in Green Bay.
Currently, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Jarrett Boykin and rookie second round draft pick Davante Adams are considered locks on the depth chart. Abbrederis is in competition with a slew of young receivers to grab one of the final spots on the receiving corps.
In addition to his skills as a wide receiver, Abbrederis is a talented special teams player, and is getting plenty of reps returning punts and kicks as Green Bay looks to keep Cobb out of the returning game.
Abbrederis’ abilities on special teams might be enough to earn him a place on the final 53-man roster.
