Two leaders on the Wisconsin Badgers offense landed on the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch List. Running back Melvin Gordon and offensive lineman Rob Havenstein were two of ten players selected to the list by a media panel that was announced right before Big Ten media days kicked off on Monday.
Gordon is arguably the best running back in the Big Ten and even the country. He’s been named to numerous preseason watch lists including Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Player of the Year and Doak Walker Award. Not to mention Gordon will be closely watched all season as he could end up being a Heisman Trophy finalist at the end of the season. Gordon is also a preseason first-team All-America selection by Phil Steele and Athlon Sports, as well as being selected to the first-team All-Big Ten team by Sporting News, Athlon and Phil Steele.
Havenstein, one of the key figures to Gordon’s overall success, has also had accolades come his way this preseason. Besides being named to the Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy watch lists, Havenstein is also a fourth-team All-America selection by Phil Steele and first-team All-Big Ten by both Steele and Athlon. Head coach Gary Andersen is leaning on Havenstein to be a team leader and help some of the young players develop.
The Players to Watch list includes five players from both the East and West division.
