The 14th ranked Wisconsin Badgers’ season opener, against LSU on August 30th, is quickly approaching. And as it sits right now, the quarterback position is still up for grabs. Gary Andersen will ultimately make a decision between two juniors — the experienced in-the-pocket Joel Stave or the unproven dual-threat Tanner McEvoy.
Both quarterbacks present certain attributes that set them apart, but which one will win the job?
Andersen’s decision will carry a lot of weight from the very first snap of the year. There is little room for error against one of the top teams in the SEC; especially in the first game of the year. So which one will win the job? That cannot be known yet, as there is still a lot of camp left to unfold. But Stave has battled back and recovered from a shoulder injury sustained in last year’s Capital One Bowl. Whereas McEvoy has transitioned back from the safety position to his natural position at quarterback. Both are likable guys and both seem like the type of player to root for. I would say it really is a toss up right now. My money says that McEvoy is under center in week one…but I’ve been wrong before.
The REAL question is who do you, the fans, want to see win the starting quarterback job? We at Badger of Honor want to know what you’re thinking. And we’d love to know why — feel free to comment your explanation for the player you’d rather have under center against LSU.
The beauty of this quarterback competition is that no matter which player comes out victorious, there is a quality backup ready to step in if need be. Not to mention that either quarterback will have the luxury of lining up next to Melvin Gordon and/or Corey Clement in the backfield on almost every play.
The season’s kickoff is just around the corner, and so is Andersen’s decision. Will he make the same one as you?
