Bovada is at it again. This time they are predicting statistics for some of the major players in college football. And a major player this year will be Wisconsin Badgers running back Melvin Gordon. Bovada has some interesting odds and over/unders for the Heisman Trophy hopeful.
For rushing yards this year, Bovada set the over/under at 1,554.5 yards and for touchdowns they have it set at 14.5.
I find it interesting that Bovada set the mark below Gordon’s total (1,609) from last year even with the departure of James White. Sure, he’ll still share some of the workload with Corey Clement, but Gordon will be a horse taking the bulk of the carries. The 1,554 total however is very achievable and would be a great goal Gordon should strive for.
Gordon scored 12 touchdowns a season ago. I see him going over the 14.5 line that Bovada has set. This could be a big year for the Badgers running back and everyone knows it, including himself. Scoring 14 touchdowns would be great, but if Gordon wants to be even considered for the Heisman he’ll have to be on top of his game each and every week.
Bovada also provided bets on major statistical categories for the Big Ten. No surprise they have Gordon as the player who will lead the conference in rushing yards with 1/1 odds. Michigan State’s Jeremy Langford comes in next with 3/1 odds. Minnesota’s David Cobb (13/4), Indiana’s Tevin Coleman (7/2) and Nebraska’s Ameer Abdullah (4/1) all follow.
Most rushing touchdowns in the Big Ten is led by Langford, who is listed at 2/1 odds. Gordon is next at 9/4, followed by Coleman (5/2), Abdullah (11/4) and Cobb (15/4).
There are a number of good running backs in the Big Ten as Gordon should come out ahead of them all. Hopefully the odds will be in his favor this season.
