Although the Wisconsin Badgers missed the cut for top 10 recruit Henry Ellenson, top 2015 big man Diamond Stone tweeted out his top 5 and Bo Ryan’s team was one of the lucky ones to land in that list.
Stone, the top center recruit in the nation and top overall in Wisconsin, tweeted out Thursday in no particular order that Connecticut, Duke, Maryland, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin were his top five.
The big man from Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, WI has won a state championship in all three years of his prep career thus far. Last season as a junior, Stone averaged 24.2 points and 13.2 rebounds per game. Stone has been putting in work this summer with the Under Armour Association honing his skills and becoming a more well-rounded player.
In this day and age of college recruiting and players putting together a “package deal” (see Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor going to Duke), there were rumors swirling around earlier in the summer that both Stone and Malik Newman were putting together such a deal. Stone has gone on to say that although it would be nice to put the top center and guard in the country together on one team, both will go to a team that suits their needs. Whether that ends up being in the same program together, we will have to wait and see.
According to 247Sports.com’s Crystal Ball predictions, UCONN leads the way for Stone with 36 percent while Wisconsin sits at 20 percent. If Bo Ryan is able to land Stone, he would join Sam Dekker as one of the most highly touted recruits in the program’s recent history.
