The No. 19 Wisconsin Badgers (0-1) failed to hang onto a 17-point lead last Saturday as they fell to the LSU Tigers 28-24. What followed that this past week no one could have predicted.
First Melvin Gordon wasn’t hurt then he was and now he’s not. We found out from head coach Gary Andersen that Joel Stave was still dealing from a shoulder injury and was not able to play Saturday. And then he was getting shut down. But wait, that wasn’t right as Andersen said he shouldn’t have used the words “shut down” and that Stave was not hurt, just dealing with some throwing issues. Stave went on to say that he has a case of the “yips.”
Hopefully this game serves as a bounce back for quarterback Tanner McEvoy who had a very underwhelming performance a week ago. Not to mention this secondary could use a good outing to get its confidence back up.
Don’t worry, my head hurts too.
Coming into Camp Randall Stadium are the Western Illinois Leathernecks (1-0) of the FCS, who took care of Valparaiso 45-6 easily. Quarterback Trenton Norvell threw for 320 yards and four touchdowns. Running back J.C. Baker ran the ball 17 times for 137 yards and added one score.
The Leathernecks are looking to come to Madison to pull off an improbable upset. I’m sorry Western Illinois, I don’t see that happening.
