Why Wisconsin Volleyball Needs Our Attention

Does the football team’s 28-24 loss to LSU still have you angry at sports in general? Well stop it. There is a better option and it’s the Wisconsin volleyball team.

Everyone needs to start paying attention, or if you’re one of the faithful who follow the team, please use this as an opportunity to tell your peers ‘Told you so’ and get others on the bandwagon.

The Wisconsin volleyball team is fresh off last season which saw them become NCAA national runner-up as the 12th seed. The team lost to Penn State 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 20-25, 25-23), however is currently No. 4 in the NCAA rankings with five first-place votes.

The Badgers started the season at No. 6 and beat Louisville 3-0 on Friday, Aug. 29 and Notre Dame 3-0 the next day at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Wisconsin volleyball is currently on its way to the Northern Colorado/Colorado State Classic, where it will face Florida A&M in addition to the host teams on Friday and Saturday.

Kelly Sheffield is in his second year as coach of Wisconsin volleyball, and after last year’s performance probably secured his job for an indefinite period of time. Six of its 15 players hail from Illinois, and bone are from inside the state.

The roster includes: Ellen Chapman, Erin Juley, Caroline WorkmanDominique Thompson, Haleigh Nelson, Julie Mikaelson, KT Kvas, Tori Blake, Deme Morales, Taylor Morey, Taylor Fricano, Kelli Bates, Courtney Thomas, Romana Kriskova and Lauren Carlini.
