The month of June has been nothing short of a whirlwind of verbal commitments for the Wisconsin Badgers. With the wave of athletes committing to head coach Paul Chryst and the Badgers, there’s still one big fish out there to catch–wide receiver Jamil Kamara.

It was the Virginia Cavaliers who wound up nabbing Kamara in the 2014 class. He played in four games and caught just one pass for six yards last season as a true freshman. The former four-star wide receiver from Virginia Beach, VA made it known to the world at the end of May that he would transfer via Twitter. His decision came just weeks after quarterback Greyson Lambert decided to transfer. Kamara was slated to be second on the depth chart coming out of spring practice.

As the dog days of summer fast approach, many believe that Wisconsin is the possible front-runner for the talented receiver. It was this past Friday, June 26th, that Kamara took an official visit to Madison.

With all the talk about Kamara possibly making Madison his next home for a few years, let’s take a look at the impact he could have for this team.

Because of transfer rules, Kamara would have to sit out the upcoming season and would have three years of eligibility left. Because of that, he would be playing with a quarterback not named Joel Stave. Once eligible, Kamara would most-likely find himself atop the depth chart among receivers. It’s one position lacking for the Badgers that would get a kickstart because of Kamara.

He’s a very explosive receiver and has potential to be a great playmaker. Right now, there is not a receiver on the roster that I can pinpoint as a reliable option. Kamara gives you a real option on the outside that can really stretch the field and aleviate pressure off the running game.

And speaking of the running game, remember how well the Badgers ran the jet sweep not too long ago? Not only could Wisconsin run that with a running back, but Kamara would be great at running the play and add just another wrinkle to the offense that the opposition must be prepared for. With the right quarterback, it also gives the offense a chance to possibly run a few more option plays with him a la Percy Harvin. It certainly gives the offense a dynamic element it has been lacking for some time.

I can’t tell you for certain if Wisconsin is the landing spot for Kamara. What I keep hearing is that Madison is top on his short list of schools. If it is the Badgers, Kamara would be welcomed with open arms from the team and fans alike. And could potentially be the missing piece to the puzzle that this program has been searching for.
