Fletcher came to the Badgers out of Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Ironically, that same high school would send the Badgers Jamar Fletcher a few years later, although the two Fletcher’s aren’t related.

After playing in a backup role in his first two seasons, Fletcher exploded for nearly 1,000 yards as a junior and almost 1,500 as a senior.

He’s a top-10 career rusher in the Badgers record book, totaling 3,414 total rushing yards, out gaining John Clay for 9th place in the books by one yard. His 5.56 career yards-per-carry average is 5th best in Badgers history.

He had fifteen 100-yard rushing games in his career, and broke the 200-yard mark in his final game as a Badger, when he piled up 241 yards in the Hall of Fame Bowl as Wisconsin ran by Duke 34-20.

After college Fletcher was a second round selection in the 1995 NFL Draft, No. 51 overall, by the San Diego Chargers. He spent 1995-2002 with the Chargers, and totaled 1.871 rushing yards, 1,943 receiving yards, and 13 total touchdowns in his NFL career.

Who wore No. 41 first?

• Guard Herman McKaskle first wore No. 41 for the Badgers back in 1927.

Who wears No. 41 now?

• Redshirt senior outside linebacker Jesse Hayes wears no. 41 on offense for the Badgers while incoming freshman wide receiver Henry Houden will wear No. 41 on offense.

Stay tuned to Badger of Honor as we continue our daily countdown in preparation of the season opener against Alabama.
