Here’s what’s on tap this week:

Morning games:

The day begins with three Big Ten match ups in the 11 a.m. central time slot. Indiana travels to Penn State in a game broadcast on ESPN and Watch ESPN, Illinois heads to #22 Iowa for a game to be broadcast on ESPN2 and Watch ESPN, and Maryland travels to take on #1 Ohio State, a game that will be shown on Big Ten Network.

Game to watch:

While Ohio State has struggled lately, the #1 team in the country isn’t the game to watch in the 11 a.m. time slot. Check out the Illinois and Iowa game as we look to learn if Iowa is the real deal or not. The Hawkeyes defense looked like it last week, but the offense also struggled against Wisconsin’s defense. Illinois shouldn’t be as tough a challenge, and if the Hawkeyes look good, look out, Big Ten West.

  • Afternoon games:

Three more games fill the 2:30 p.m. central time slot, with Minnesota traveling to face Purdue in a game to be shown on ESPNU and Watch ESPN, Wisconsin visits Nebraska in a game on ABC, ESPN2 and Watch ESPN, and #13 Northwestern and #18 Michigan square off in Ann Arbor. That game will be televised on Big Ten Network.

    Game to watch:

It’s a pretty obvious choice here. Minnesota at Purdue will be interesting to see if the Gophers have anything to offer this season, and Wisconsin-Nebraska should provide some insight if either of these teams will challenge in the West. The real game is the ranked matchup between Northwestern and Michigan. It should be a classic Big Ten battle, and could tell us a lot about both teams.

    Night game:

Only one night game is on the schedule this week, as #4 Michigan State travels to Rutgers for a 7 p.m. kick, which will be televised on Big Ten network.

    What to watch for:

Since there’s only one game, it’s an easy choice which Big Ten contest to watch Saturday night. While it doesn’t look good on paper, its worth tuning in to at the start to see what Michigan State looks like. The Spartans have had a tough go lately, and if they want to keep their college football playoff hopes alive, will need to show up in a big way as they prepare for a matchup at Michigan next week.
