The Wisconsin Badgers are headed for a rematch with Indiana

After letting a road matchup with the Indiana Hoosiers slip away in the waning moments earlier this season, the Wisconsin Badgers (11-9, 3-4 B1G) have a chance to even the season series with a win Tuesday night at the Kohl Center.

More badgers: Opportunity Knokcing for Young Badgers Squad

It won’t be an easy task, as the No. 19 Hoosiers (17-3, 7-0 B1G) enter the game riding a 10-game winning streak, including a 7-0 start to begin conference play. Indiana has yet to play any of the top five teams in the Big Ten, but also hasn’t had a close game in conference play other than the 59-58 victory over the Badgers a couple of weeks ago.

The Hoosiers (along with Iowa) are one of two undefeated teams in conference play, and it’s largely thanks to the play of guard Yogi Ferrell, who is averaging 17.1 points, 6.1 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. Ferrell has a better than 2-to-1 assist to turnover ratio and is shooting nearly 45 percent from three-point range and nearly 50 percent from the field.

More from Wisconsin Basketball

Indiana lost James Blackmon Jr. to a season-ending knee injury before Big Ten play began, but have replaced his nearly 16 points per game with help from Troy Williams (13.1 points per game), Thomas Bryant (11.7 points per game), and Max Bielfeldt (8.5 points per game). Robert Johnson, Nick Zeisloft and Collin Hartman each play significant minutes, as well, and each average at least five points a game.

Indiana is third in the country scoring 86.1 points per game, and the Hoosiers are giving up just 67.9 points per contest. The Wisconsin Badgers held Indiana to just 59 points during their last go-around, which was 10 points fewer than Indiana’s second-lowest outing of the season, a 69-point showing in a loss to UNLV in the non-conference schedule.

The Badgers will be looking for another strong defensive showing as they attempt to stretch their current two-game winning streak to three straight games. The Badgers survived a late-game comeback to defeat Penn State behind a 20-point outing from Ethan Happ, the same player who hit the game-winning shot for Wisconsin against Michigan state last weekend.

Happ has upped his scoring average to 12.0 points per game, and leads the Badgers with 8.3 rebounds per contest. He’s coming off his sixth double-double of the season, and has earned back-to-back Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors.

Along with Happ’s strong play, the Badgers have continued to get steady scoring out of Nigel Hayes (16.3 points per game) and Bronson Koenig (14.0 points per game). Vitto Brown and Zak Showalter have continued to see heavy minutes, and under Greg Gard, Alex Illikainen and Jordan Hill have sen a resurgence in time played.

The Badgers will look to knock off the ranked Hoosiers Tuesday night in the Kohl Center.
