The Wisconsin football team has added a transfer cornerback for 2017

The second of two transfer players announced for the Wisconsin football team on Friday, the Badgers grabbed a talented cornerback from Hawaii in Nick Nelson.

After adding former Pittsburgh running back Chris James earlier in the day, Nelson made it a second transfer who will join the Badgers in 2017.

Nelson will sit out 2016 due to NCAA transfer rules.

More badgers: Badgers Add Transfer RB

The soon-to-be Badger announced the news that he was accepted into UW Friday on Twitter.

At 6-foot-flat and 200 pounds, Nelson is a good-sized cornerback who has legitimate experience.

Nelson played 8 games in his freshman season, making 36 tackles and defending five passes, forcing a fumble as well. As a sophomore last season, Nelson made 51 tackles and a sack, and defended 15 passes while forcing another fumble.

Those 15 pass breakups led the Mountain West Conference last season.

He also has punt return experience, returning 19 punts for 141 yards last year.

Nelson is familiar with Camp Randall, as he and the Rainbow Warriors came to Madison last season, falling to the Badgers 28-0 in a night game. Nelson had eight tackles and a pass defended in the game.

After he sits out a transfer season, Nelson could be an impact player for the Badgers.

The Badgers will lose Sojourn Shelton following the 2016 season, and could theoretically pencil in Nelson, a proven starter, into the lineup to replace the four-year starter.

The Badgers have some depth at cornerback with Derrick Tindal and Natrell Jamerson, but neither has starting experience. Tindal has played as the Badgers third cornerback and will likely step up as a starter this season, and Jamerson is still figuring out the position after switching from wide receiver.
