Wisconsin Football Spring Practice is Underway, Much of the Focus on QB

Inside of the camp of Wisconsin Football there are many story lines beginning to take shape. While we are still weeks and weeks away from the season opener, news is starting to come to rise. Like that of the defense who should again be stellar, or that of the new look backfield with Bradrick Shaw and Chris James as a new possible star. One story line that has been steady is that of the QB position, in which Coach Chryst has stressed time and time again that Alex Hornibrook is “the guy”. While inside camp that may be the case, happenings outside the camp could say otherwise.

As we all know by now the Badgers are still in the hunt for former Notre Dame Quarterback Malik Zaire along with North Carolina, but when Zaire announced he would not decide until mid April the talk quickly died down. However after an announcement from Chapel Hill, the talk is again beginning to swirl as another QB Transfer took to Twitter.

Former LSU Quarterback Brandon Harris announced yesterday that he had committed to UNC, meaning that the quarterback position at North Carolina was likely filled, leaving Zaire on the outside looking in. Zaire has made it clear he does not want to be in a competition after losing his job to injury at Notre Dame, so the water is officially at its murkiest point. While Wisconsin Football remains in the hunt, more and more teams are starting to emerge from the wood works.

Just a short time ago in a report from Dallas Sporting News, Zaire has apparently been in discussion with Head Coach Tom Herman. It would fit for Zaire and give Texas’ Shane Buchele a chance to develop as a backup for a year. In addition, the Florida Gators were heavily in the mix to land Zaire, where again he would fit well in the pro style system. There have also been rumors of mystery teams like Virginia Tech or an unanimous SEC Team (Ole Miss). However you look at it, a one time two horse race appears to have fallen to the pack as the Badgers will continue to battle for Zaire’s commitment. While Coach Chryst may be all Hornibrook to the public, there isn’t a chance that he isn’t working behind the scenes for Zaire.
