The Wisconsin Badgers have owned the Minnesota Golden Gophers in football for the last decade and a half.

It is no secret that the Wisconsin Badgers football program has dominated the historic rivalry between them and the Minnesota Golden Gophers as of late.

Up until last year, the Gophers owned the overall record argument as they still held the all-time series, despite the Badgers winning 12 straight meetings. Last season, in the regular season finale- the Badgers used a second half comeback to make it 13 straight, clinch the Big Ten West and even up the overall series record to 59-59-8 between the two.

The last time the Gophers knocked off the Badgers came all the way back in November 2003, when No. 24 Minnesota knocked off Wisconsin by a score of 37-34. To be exact, the last time the Gophers defeated the Badgers in football was November 8, 2003.

Here we are in the year 2017, nearly 14 years since the Gophers last defeated the Badgers. Although the two will not play until the regular season finale again in late November, today July 17, 2017 marks a very significant detail in the team’s recent history.

As of today, it has been 5000 days since Minnesota last defeated Wisconsin (h/t @AxeWeek).

We fact-checked this Twitter accounts claim, and it serves to be true. In fact, to have even more fun with it- it has been (since Minnesota has won):

  • 432,000,000 seconds
  • 7,200,000 minutes
  • 120,000 hours
  • 5000 days
  • 714 weeks and 2 days

While the 13 game win streak has been fun, it hasn’t been easy. Minnesota has improved their program mightily over the last several years and have now brought on former Western Michigan coach P.J. Fleck to lead the team.

This year’s meeting should be a good one.
