Let's overreact in the right way...

I’m a firm believer in not telling other fans how to be a fan. Let fans be fans, even if it’s full of dumb opinions or misguided logic. However, that doesn’t mean I won’t at least share my point of view as another fan. So this isn’t a “you should feel this way or that way” as a Wisconsin fan. You do you. Feel free to think any of the things below, but I'm going to put on my sober hat and point out some logic that may help.

The UCLA game was dumb in a lot of ways, and after a frustrating loss like this, it's always going to bring out a ton of overreactions. Yet, if we are going to do it, at least let's apply some good logic to it.

Makes Sense: The Badgers offense was terrible after a bye week.

Wisconsin had an extra week to prepare for this game and came out about as flat as they have been all season on offense. It was hard to watch, and Wisconsin had really no answers for UCLA’s defense.

Call out Colton Joseph for his 66 yards in the air. That’s a fair overreaction; he may not be that great against good defenses. Sure, he can run well, but we’ve yet to see him play a good game against a good-to-great defense. So, maybe overreact about our quarterback and the offense's game plan.

Silly overreaction: Fire Luke Fickell, “I’ll never watch another game while he coaches!”

Let’s be clear: Luke Fickell may deserve to be fired at the end of this season, but not for this game. It was a road game against the No. 12 team, who are undefeated this season and just beat the Ducks. Add in the fact that Fickell had to go up against the refs too. It was doomed in ways beyond Fickell’s current control.

Get on him for the penalties that were right against Wisconsin, or the conservative calls down the stretch with a punt and not using his final timeouts. But this game alone isn’t a “I won’t watch the Badgers anymore while Fickell is the coach.” Deep breath, beating USC and/or Iowa coming up changes things.

Makes sense: Wisconsin may not be good again this year!

This is fair. Wisconsin has yet to beat a good team. We thought so with Penn State, but it turns out that the Nittany Lions are terrible. So, we are still trying to figure out if this Wisconsin team is actually good or not.

If we want to overreact, hang out in this zone. Wisconsin could be an imposter so far this year; it's hard to tell, and yet it has two more chances coming up to prove it isn't.

Silly overreaction: We may not win another game all season!

Okay, this one is too far. This one sucked, but it’s a loss that makes sense when you sober up a little. The Badgers have a manageable schedule and even plenty of big goals ahead of them.

Beat USC and/or Iowa in the next two weeks and the season isn’t lost, in fact, it may be a win!
