Bo Ryan and the Wisconsin Badgers addressed a position that needed to be filled Friday, tabbing program assistant Katherine Vosters as its new director of basketball operations.
A native of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, Vosters has been involved with the basketball team for the past five seasons. Last year was her first as a program assistant, which was preceded by four years as a student-manager.
In addition, she also worked the UW Boys Basketball Camps each of the previous four summers.
“Kat has been a valuable member of our staff for several years now, working her way up from student manager, to program assistant and now in our operations position,” Ryan said in a statement after her hiring was announced. “She’s organized and has a strong work ethic and shown she is ready to take on the new responsibilities. This should provide a smooth transition for our program and keep us running efficiently.”
Vosters earned a bachelor’s degree from UW-Madison’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications while also earning a degree in Communication Arts in 2013, along with a certificate in Gender and Women’s Studies.
Her first year as a program assistant was an exciting one for the Badgers, as they advanced to the Final Four for just the third time in school history and the first time since 2000.
As a program assistant, Vosters helped with administrative duties, which included being involved with the organization and production of the 2014 Postseason Celebration.
As the director of basketball operations, she will face new responsibilities such as overseeing the program’s budgets and coordinating the team’s travel and managers, along with other administrative duties. This includes helping organize the Bo Ryan Golf Classic, the coach’s annual benefit golf outing.
She replaces former director of basketball operations Luke Wainwright, who stepped down from the position in early May to pursue a career in coaching.
Following the announcement, Vosters released a statement of her own to express her gratitude and excitement of being given this opportunity.
“I have been fortunate to have worked with this program for the past five years, and to be given the opportunity to take on the role of Director of Basketball Operations is very exciting,” she said. “I thank Coach Ryan and his staff for the opportunity and look forward to continuing my commitment to Wisconsin basketball.”
