There are some things I can’t stand that ESPN does. There are also some things I admire that the “Mother Ship” does. But one of things I absolutely love watching are the This is SportsCenter commercials featuring various ESPN anchors, athletes coaches and mascots. One of my favorite commercials of all time is the Y2K one where at the end Charlie Steiner is holding a lantern, has face paint and a tie around his head shouting, “follow me, follow me to freedom!” Cracks me up every time.
The latest commercial that has come out features ESPN anchor Jay Harris and linemen dressed in Wisconsin Badger uniforms. Now as you can see below, those are not actual Badger linemen. In fact only one guy actually looks like he could be a collegiate offensive lineman.
Have a look for yourself.
I will admit this is not one of their greatest all-time commercials, but it did make me chuckle a little bit. And honestly what is up with #75?! They could have used someone a little more believable than this guy!
However I do find it funny that the big guys had to use the little room and were shut out by two jockey’s and a gymnast. It would be quite the sight to see Wisconsin’s big hogs and an ESPN anchor crammed into a little grade school like detention room.
Nothing will ever compare to Charlie Steiner however. In my eyes, his will go down as the best This is SportsCenter commercial ever.
