Melvin Gordon’s record-setting day on Saturday afternoon was nothing short of impressive. For those that don’t know (and I don’t know how you haven’t heard by now) the Wisconsin Badgers star running back ran for an FBS-record 408 yards in the 59-24 rout of Nebraska. And the crazy thing is he only needed three quarters to do it!
As you can imagine, as Gordon started creeping towards the then school record 339 yards held by Ron Dayne, the rumblings on Twitter started growing more and more with each rush. Once Gordon not only broke the school record but also the FBS record, Twitter went absolutely crazy.
From current and former NFL players to former Badger players and plenty of analysts from around the country, here are some of the best-of-the-best Twitter reactions to Gordon’s record setting day.
After two lost fumbles in the first quarter, Gordon went off in the second frame. Running for 189 yards alone in that quarter and racking up 238 yards in the first half, people were getting a sense that this day could be a special one.
Halfway through the third quarter is when you really knew that this day would be magical.
Once Gordon broke the record, Twitter blew up. Remember he did this in just three quarters!
Well after the game was over and the celebration I’m certain was still continuing Saturday night, Gordon took time out to thank LaDainian Tomlinson for his kind words.
It was a performance for the ages that Badger fans will remember for a lifetime. Most of us remember when Ron Dayne broke the NCAA career rushing record back in 1999 on the last game of the season. This performance ranks right up as one of the greatest performances in the college football history.
