4. OCTOBER 3rd vs. IOWA HAWKEYES

Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sports

Iowa’s trip to Madison in the first Saturday in October marks the conference opener for both teams. It will also mark the 89th meeting between these two teams in their respective program’s storied histories. Last season Wisconsin squeaked out a 26-24 victory over the Hawkeyes on the road. And once again the Heartland Trophy will be on the line as Wisconsin has held onto it three consecutive seasons.

Wisconsin barely leads the all-time series with a record of 44-42-2, but even at Camp Randall the Badgers have a hard time getting a victory against an always pesky Hawkeyes team. The last time these two played in Madison was in 2009 with Iowa coming away with the 20-10 victory. In the last 10 meeting between the two, the record is even at 5-5 but the Badgers have won three in a row.

Also don’t forget this will be Paul Chryst’s first Big Ten conference game as head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers and he gets to go up against long-time head coach Kirk Ferentz. I wouldn’t worry too much about it however. Chryst was in the Wisconsin program for six seasons as a very successful offensive coordinator. He’s very familiar with the Hawkeyes and what Ferentz runs in Iowa City.
