Dallas Cowboys: Round 1, pick 27

If the Cowboys choose to keep Dez Bryant and move on from DeMarco Murray, Dallas may be the best place for Melvin Gordon. Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

This selection is only a possibility if the Cowboys move on from DeMarco Murray. The Cowboys have a big decision to make this offseason, as two of their top offensive weapons – the other being wide receiver Dez Bryant – are free agents, and both will command top dollar after stellar seasons last year.

As Todd McShay said in his Mock Draft 3.0 (Subscription required) in which he predicted Gordon in this spot (he had Gordon here in Mock 2.0 as well), the more likely of the two players the Cowboys will move on from is the 27-year-old back.

Should that scenario unfold, Dallas would be my favorite place for Melvin Gordon to land.

The Cowboys’ offensive line is absolutely stacked.

As much as owner/president/general manager/Jerryworld czar Jerry Jones gets maligned for many of his decisions, he and the Cowboys have absolutely struck gold with their last two first round draft picks – Wisconsin center Travis Frederick and Notre Dame tackle Zack Martin – and have assembled the best offensive line in the NFL.

DeMarco Murray is great, but his game is accelerated by the great offensive line in front of him. Their abilities likely played a major role in keeping him healthy. Gordon would be a perfect fit should Murray be in another uniform nest season.
