Linebackers
The Badgers have to move on from two true standouts in the middle of their defense. Derek Landisch and Marcus Trotter were animals last season, and both their play and leadership will be much-missed.
Still, the Badgers must move on, and a few names jump out as potential starters in the middle of the defense.
Cincy on the Prowl
Leon Jacobs has the most experience of the returning players, and might win a starting job by default. D’Cota Dixon, who was injured last year, has a decent chance at a starting job, as well.
The Badgers might look to a true freshman in the middle, as recruit Nick Thomas — an early enrollee — has the size and skills to make an impact. It remains to be seen if he will be ready in time for the opener.
The inside linebacker spot looks to be the toughest to fill come the season opener.
The outside should be more than fine with all-B1G linebackers Joe Schobert and Vince Biegel returning.
