As the countdown to the first Wisconsin football game of the season continues, Badger of Honor is taking a look at Badgers by the numbers, checking in on a different Badger or Badgers players who wore the number corresponding with the remaining days until the Badgers head to Texas to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday, Sept. 5.
Next up in our countdown, signifying 65 days until college football is back, is Jamie Vanderveldt.
Wisconsin Badgers
A 30-game starter at offensive guard for the Badgers, Vanderveldt spent 1993 to 1996 at Wisconsin after choosing UW out of his hometown in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
His third year as a starter — 1996 — was big season on the ground for the Badgers. Vanderveldt and the rest of the offensive line paved the way for a 2,109 yard season out of Ron Dayne.
Vanderveldt’s performance earned him a first team All-Big Ten selection. He was also a team captain in 1996.
Following his collegiate career, Vanderveldt played a season for the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe. He was a ninth round selection, the 53rd selection overall, by the Galaxy in 1998.
