After spending 2008-2011 at Wisconsin, Leuer was drafted with the 40th overall pick in the 2011 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. Because of the NBA lockout he actually began his professional career playing basketball in Germany.
He returned to the Bucks when the lockout ended, and played in Milwaukee in 2011-2012. He was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2012, waived, and claimed by the Cleveland Cavaliers. He spent time on the Cleveland roster and in the D-League with the Canton Charge in 2012-2013.
He was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013, and he signed a three year contract. He was traded again in 2015 to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for the draft-day rights to Andrew Harrison.
Leuer has played in 186 games in his career, and averages 4.6 points and 2,8 rebounds per game.
Leuer and the Phoenix Suns start the season Wednesday agains the Dallas Mavericks.
