Which Badgers rookie (true/redshirt freshman, or any player who hasn’t played yet) will have the best season for Wisconsin?

RV: Since I already talked in depth about Ethan Happ in the last question, I’m going to go with my second choice, true freshman Charlie Thomas. Thomas was underrated as a recruit, but is physically big and strong enough to bang with opposing Big 10 big men. He also is a ferocious rebounder, has great touch around the hoop, and has the athleticism to play above the rim.

  • JR: Charlie Thomas will have the best “rookie” performance this year, but I’m biased toward giant human beings.

EB: Ethan Happ. See previous response.

TJ: Ethan Happ has generated plenty of buzz and rightfully so. Throughout his redshirt season last year, Happ drew plenty of praise from coaches and teammates alike. I’m not going to say he sets the college basketball world on fire, but I think he develops into a big contributor during the course of the season.

JO: From all accounts, Ethan Happ really made the most of his redshirt season last year. The 6-9 redshirt freshman spent the season on the scout team defending guys like Frank Kaminsky and Nigel Hayes, and then attempted to score on them on the other end of the court. With no true center expected to play major minutes for the Badgers this season, expect Happ to be on the court plenty. He’s going to score plenty, too, and he’s a talented rebounder. It should be a big year for the young player.
