Is Ethan Happ the next great Wisconsin Badger?

The hype and attention Happ is receiving is just incredible. At this point, the Badgers should induct him in the Hall of Fame and be done with it. Everybody, including myself, thinks that Happ is going to be a stud. He is big, skilled, and can finish around the rim. As a starter this year, he has a chance to really turn some heads. But maybe we should slow down just a little bit. I mean, the kid hasn’t even played a single minute in a Wisconsin uniform and people are already declaring him the next Michael Jordan.
He certainly has the talent and tenacity to be a key contributor, but the expectations on him are way too high. Let him grow and develop like a normal freshman. The high expectations were a big reason why Sam Dekker was so frustrating to Wisconsin basketball fans. Don’t get me wrong. Happ will be good. In a few years, he is going to be a star. But by expecting him to step in and become an All-Big 10 type player right away, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
Reasonable expectations for him are 10 points and 8 rebounds per game.
