Barry Alvarez returned to the sidelines to coach the Badgers as Gary Andersen had split for Oregon State, and the Wisconsin AD helped bring another bowl victory to the Badgers.

The Badgers took an early lead after a Corey Clement touchdown reception, but Auburn went up 14-7 heading into the half.

Melvin Gordon rumbled into the endzone from 25 yards out and 53 yards out around an Auburn field goal in the third quarter to put the Badgers ahead 21-17 heading into the final 15 minutes.

The teams traded touchdowns to open the fourth quarter, Gordon scoring his third of the game to put the Badgers up 28-24 with under eight minutes to play. Auburn took the lead late on a Cameron Artis-Payne touchdown run with just under three minutes to play as the Tigers took a 31-28 lead.

The Badgers, though, drove for the game-tying field goal from Rafael Gaglianone, forcing overtime, where they got on board first with a field goal. The Badgers defense forced Auburn to -3 yards on their opening overtime possession, and Daniel Carlson’s 45-yard field goal attempt missed as the Badgers hung on to win.
