The 5-foot-11, 182-pound defensive back is among a group of important cornerback recruits for the Badgers, who have lacked depth at the position for the past couple of years. With only three returning players with significant playing time – Sojourn Shelton, Derrick Tindal and Natrell Jamerson – the Badgers needed a few cornerbacks in this class and Pennamon will add to the depth at the position.
247 Sports ranks him the 154th-best player out of the state of Florida and the 101st-ranked cornerback nationally.
Though he took a late visit to Rutgers, Pennamon made it known ahead of signing day that he would be sticking to his verbal commitment to the Badgers.
With a quick look at the following highlight tape, the most immediately noticeable factor in Pennamon’s game is his speed. He’s shifty, too, and may be involved in the return game. Pennamon reads the quarterback well, and delivers a big hit.
Here’s his player profile, per UWBadgers.com:
High School: Three-star prospect by 247 Sports, ESPN, Rivals and Scout … first-team all-state by Associated Press as a senior … finished his senior season with 57 total tackles, 4 TFLs, 2 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for touchdown … also averaged 7.8 yards per carry while rushing for 125 yards and a touchdown … caught 10 passes for 293 yards and 3 TDs … first-team all-state as a junior and second-team all-state as a sophomore, helping University Christian (Jacksonville) to consecutive Class 2A state titles … second-team all-state as a sophomore … also lettered in basketball and track and field … high school coach was Ricky Armstrong
