Wisconsin basketball freshman Khalil Iverson found redemption after a flubbed dunk

After a breakaway steal in the first half of Wednesday night’s win over the Minnesota Golden Gophers turned into a flubbed attempt at a windmill dunk, Wisconsin basketball freshman Khalil Iverson redeemed himself with a nice baseline flush later in the game.

Iverson, who had a highlight-filled night against Iowa a week ago Wednesday, must have still been feeling pretty good about a particularly thrilling slam, an incidental windmill dunk he threw down to avoid a defender.

So when he nabbed an open-court steal and was heading unguarded to the hoop against Minnesota Wednesday night, I’m sure he was ready to put that next clip together for his highlight tape.

Unfortunately, as Iverson went up to attempt what looked to be a windmill dunk, he lost control of the ball and ended up just grabbing at the rim as the ball bounced away.

It wasn’t the greatest look, especially on the road, and earned Iverson a spot on the bench next to Greg Gard.

Luckily for Iverson, he had a chance to redeem himself later in the game, and came through this time with a double-clutch dunk along the baseline.

It was a learning moment for the young player, who’s been working through a wrist injury. Gard said after the game it’s better to just get the two points than to try to pull off a more difficult shot.

"“If it goes in, great, but I don’t know what he was trying, if he had a new one for us. He’s got a little sore wrist so I said if you can’t grip the ball exactly how you want, just do a normal one and let’s get two points and go to the other end.”“Save the new one for when you practice and show me. I have to clear it before you can use it.”“It was a good teaching moment for him…and a good teaching moment for everybody else, too.”"

Here’s another look at both dunks, or should I say a dunk attempt and a dunk:
